Hydrogen Economy 101 – Carnarvon Community Awareness Workshop

Join us for a Community Awareness Workshop on the Hydrogen Economy and learn the opportunities it presents for the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. This is an in-person event put together for the Carnarvon community and all are invited.

In partnership with the Government of Western Australia Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, The Shire of Carnarvon, Siemens, Gascoyne Green Energy, H2E, Vestas, and GreenEdge Ammonia; this workshop will provide attendees:

  • An introduction to the hydrogen economy
  • Hydrogen Value Chain and Hydrogen production from renewables
  • Learning about hydrogen’s current applications and case studies from industry players, including microgrids for Homeland Communities
  • The Hydrogen role in future industries
  • Opportunities to have your own questions answered by industry professionals during Q&A sessions
  • Tools and knowledge to become involved in your local community’s adoption of the Hydrogen Economy
  • Networking time to speak with representatives from each of our event partners over light supper

Presenters

1. Lorie Jones is a Systems Engineer, who emigrated from Canada to Perth Australia in 1987. She has spent more than 35 years in large engineering companies across a range of disciplines, including environmental approvals and strategic industrial planning. She joined Engineers Australia soon after emigrating and has contributed as a volunteer Office Bearer on many leadership roles at both division level and national level, including as President of Engineers Australia WA Division (2008).  More recently, she was invited to take on a leadership role in the Hydrogen Society of Australia as Vice President and has since become a champion for promoting the role of hydrogen in underpinning the future energy ecosystem.

2. Furat Dawood has a PhD in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering. He is a hydrogen scientist, renewable energy expert, and senior energy sustainability consultant. He is the founder of the Hydrogen Economy Group (H2E Group), a Steering Committee Member and the chair WA Chapter of the Hydrogen Society of Australia and a member of many energy societies, NGOs and research groups. He is involved in many Hydrogen Projects in Australia and Globally.

3. Andrew McCluskey is the Executive General Manager of Hydrogen, Siemens Ltd AU NZ. He is founder and the chair of the Hydrogen Society of Australia.

 

 

4. Tym Duncanson has over 35 years experience in regional development, focusing on sustainable use of natural resources including environment, land and water management, renewable energy and transitioning to a low carbon economy. He has had more than two decades experience in both the private and public sectors covering all aspects of policy, government relations and stakeholder management.  He recently spent four years as CEO of the State Government Gascoyne Development Commission,  

5. Alan Hopkins, Director -GreenEdge Ammonia Pty Ltd. Alan has more than 30 years’ experience at Managing Director level, including extensive international experience with start-up operations in Australia, Africa, Central Asia & South-East Asia.

He was Managing Director of Carnegie Corporation Ltd as well as several other public listed Companies in Australia and Europe operating in the resources, energy, and new tech clean energy sectors. Alan provides commercial, strategic & management support to companies with significant expansion plans.

6. Owen Stacy, Director -GreenEdge Ammonia Pty Limited. Over 40 years’ experience in Australia, Canada, Indonesia and UK in the design and project management of major projects covering ports and harbours, industrial plant, mining, materials handling, steelworks, power stations and major project infrastructure. Over twentyfive years in senior management positions and the front end of major projects from Concepts to Bankability.

7. Greg Allen has been part of the Vestas development team since 2021 and is responsible for development activities in Western Australia. Greg’s background is in renewable energy and energy storage technology and project development, having been involved in renewable energy and electricity generation businesses for over 20 years. Leveraging his background in mechanical engineering and MBA, Greg has lead large multi-disciplinary teams of technical and commercial specialists to develop and commercialise new clean energy technologies and projects throughout Australia.  Greg’s dedication to the clean energy sector is born out of a desire to ensure we make every effort to decarbonise the economy as rapidly as possible.
