Our first installment features Kapz Malhotra, ATCO’s General Manager of Engineering Projects, delivering unique insights into “How ATCO is Blending Hydrogen into the Gas Network”. The Summit presentation will explore updates on ATCO’s hydrogen journey, including developments on the Clean Energy Innovation Hub (Jandakot), refueling infrastructure, blending hydrogen into the gas distribution network, and the Clean Energy Innovation Park.
Kapz will also be joining us live to provide the latest news on these projects and will partake in a short QnA with the audience.
Kapz Malhotra is a senior people manager professional with over 17 years of experience in Australia’s energy, dairy and beverage sectors. Kapz has led medium to large-sized teams to develop impactful strategies and advance transformational programs throughout their business. He is also regarded as a safe set of hands with an eye for risk management, safety and health leadership. His passion for innovation is supported by a Degree in Electrical Engineering, Finance and MBA. Over the past 12 months, Kapz has led the operational aspect of a renewable hydrogen production plant, the Clean Energy Innovation Hub, and is contributing to the first hydrogen refuelling station in WA. In addition to those developments, Kapz is also working on a pilot project to blend hydrogen with natural gas in the distribution network, a significant step in the provision of more sustainable energy for WA.

ATCO Gas has been working with hydrogen technology and energy solutions for a number of years and in 2019 opened a “world-class Clean Energy Innovation Hub (CEIH) in Jandakot, Western Australia with the support of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The Hub generates renewable hydrogen through solar-powered electrolysis, and was a significant step in Western Australia’s moves towards a hydrogen economy” (https://www.atco.com/en-au/projects/hydrogen.html, 2021).
