The global shift towards clean energy has driven State and Federal Government efforts to develop the hydrogen industry in Australia. With the Australian regulatory framework for developing hydrogen projects still in its relative infancy, this webinar provides on overview of the current status of the Australian hydrogen legal regime and the latest developments within this space. The webinar will also examine how legal regulatory models developed by other countries and well-established Australian energy industry regimes may influence future regulation of hydrogen project development.

In addition the webinar will look to addresses the legal challenges the hydrogen industry will need to navigate in order to advance projects and realise Australia’s hydrogen resource potential. Particularly, focus will be on the legal risks associated with:

  • securing project financing;
  • State and Federal Government fiscal regimes;
  • compliance with competition and foreign investment regulations and policies; and
  • infrastructure access and construction.

About the speakers

Paul Shillington is a transactional and projects lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in energy and infrastructure. Paul has worked for and advised developers, contractors and investors on energy-focussed projects in the Middle East, West Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in the LNG space. Paul is an active presenter to clients on the emerging hydrogen industry, recognising its growing importance as a low-carbon energy source for the Asia Pacific region and as a major export opportunity for Australia.
